Handymap.ai

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 26, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Handiers Inc. ("Handymap", "we", "us") collects, uses and shares information when you use Handymap.ai (the "Service"). It applies to homeowners, Pros and visitors. Terms not defined here have the meanings in our Terms of Service.

1. Information we collect

Public license records

To build the map, we copy public license data published by state licensing boards (for example CSLB in California, TDLR and TSBPE in Texas, and DBPR in Florida). Depending on the source this includes the business name, licensee name, license number, classification, status and dates, mailing address (city and ZIP), county and business phone. We show an approximate location for these listings, not the exact address.

Information you give us

  • Sign-in: your mobile phone number (if you sign in by phone) or your Google account's name, email address and profile photo (if you sign in with Google).
  • Homeowner profile: username, contact email, profile photo, home city, optional street address, home type, and, if you allow it when setting up your profile, your device's location (latitude and longitude) to fill in your city.
  • Pro profile: business display name, your name, public phone for calls and texts, email, website, Instagram handle, trades offered, specialty description, languages spoken, license state and number, year started, service area and radius, hours, business description, logo, business address (shown exactly or approximately, as you choose) and posts with photos and captions.
  • Verification: phone numbers you verify, such as the number on a license record when you claim a listing, or the public phone you put on your profile.
  • Messages to the AI assistant: the text you type and photos you attach.
  • Requests to us: what you send when you contact us.

Information collected automatically

  • Activity: listings you save or like, and posts you create or delete. For claimed listings we count profile views per day, without recording who viewed them.
  • Technical data: to limit abuse, we keep a one-way hash of your IP address with a request count for up to 2 days. Our hosting providers keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and time of request).
  • Device location: if you allow location access, your browser uses it to center the map and sort pros by distance. On the map, your location stays in your browser and is not sent to us.

Cookies and local storage

We use a small number of first-party cookies and browser storage, only to run the Service:

  • hm_session: keeps you signed in (up to 14 days);
  • NEXT_LOCALE: remembers your language;
  • browser storage used by Firebase Authentication for sign-in, and by Google reCAPTCHA to protect phone sign-in from abuse;
  • browser storage that keeps your last 20 AI assistant messages on your device (photos are not kept).

We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking or third-party analytics.

2. How we use information

  • to provide the map, listings, saved pros, likes and the AI assistant;
  • to sign you in, verify phone numbers and prevent fraudulent claims;
  • to show Pro profiles and posts to the public, and like and save counts to the Pro;
  • to keep the Service safe: rate limiting, moderating names and content, and investigating abuse;
  • to fix problems and improve the Service;
  • to communicate with you about your account or the Service;
  • to comply with law and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

3. What is public

Listings and Pro profiles are public. Anyone can see the information on a listing, including public-record details, and anything a Pro adds to their profile and posts. Pros can hide their phone, email, address or licensee name from their public profile, and can hide their whole listing from the map. Homeowner profiles (username, home city, saved pros and likes) are not shown publicly; a Pro sees only total like and save counts.

4. How we share information

We share information only as described here:

  • Service providers that process it for us under contract:
  • Amazon Web Services (hosting, database, file storage and content delivery, in the United States);
  • Google Firebase (sign-in) and Google reCAPTCHA (abuse protection for phone sign-in);
  • Google (Gemini API), our current AI provider, which receives the messages and photos you send to the assistant to generate a reply;
  • Twilio (sending phone verification codes by text or voice call).
  • Map tiles: your browser loads base-map images from OpenFreeMap, which receives your IP address as with any website request.
  • Legal reasons: if required by law, legal process or a government request, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Handymap, our users or others.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
  • With your consent or at your direction.

5. AI assistant

Messages and photos you send to the assistant are sent to our AI provider to produce a reply. We do not store the content of your conversations on our servers; we record only usage counts (such as the number of tokens) for operations. Your recent messages stay in your browser so the conversation is still there when you return; you can clear them by clearing your browser's site data. Please do not include sensitive personal information.

6. How long we keep information

  • account and profile information: while your account is active, and deleted within 30 days after you ask us to delete it (copies in backups expire on their normal schedule);
  • posts and photos: until you delete them or your account is deleted;
  • daily profile view counts: about 40 days;
  • hashed IP request counts: up to 2 days;
  • phone verification records: up to 1 day; our verification provider keeps its own records as described in its privacy policy;
  • public license records: as long as they are published by the state and used on the map.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Access and correction: you can view and edit your profile on your account page.
  • Deletion: email support@handiers.com from your account or tell us the phone number you sign in with, and we will delete your account and associated information, except what we must keep by law.
  • Pros: you can hide fields or your entire listing from your account page.
  • Public-record listings: if a listing about you or your business is wrong, or you want it removed, contact support@handiers.com. We will correct it or, where appropriate, stop showing it; the source records remain public at the state agency.
  • Location: you can turn off location access in your browser at any time.

California residents

If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, use and disclose; to delete it; to correct it; to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do neither); to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we use precise location from your device only as described above); and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Categories collected in the last 12 months: identifiers (name, phone, email, username, IP address in hashed form), professional information (license and business details), commercial and internet activity (saves, likes, posts), approximate and, with your permission, precise geolocation, and audio-visual information (photos you upload). Sources and purposes are described above. To make a request, email support@handiers.com; we will verify your request by confirming control of the phone number or email on your account. You may use an authorized agent.

Other U.S. states

Depending on where you live (for example Texas), you may have similar rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of your personal information and to appeal our decision. Contact support@handiers.com; if we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and accounts are for people 18 and older. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We use measures such as encryption in transit, access controls and limited access to production data to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

10. Where data is processed

Handymap is offered in the United States, and we process and store data in the United States.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. If a change is material, we will notify you on the Service or by contacting you before it takes effect.
